Forest Gate
Estate Home Exteriors

The Forest Gate residence is a tour de force resulting from stellar design and three years of construction by a team of master craftsmen. The stonework alone, using Tennessee fieldstone, required two years to complete. Approximately 3,000 square feet of exterior flagstone was used for floors on the decks, stairs, screened porch and patio. Cobblestones serve as the driving surface in the motor court.
The three-bay garage features custom cedar doors and a separate work room. Above the garage is a charming 600-square-foot apartment with separate entrance and stairway. The apartment is fitted with a full bath and kitchenette plus a full bedroom with walk-in closet and sitting area. All oak floors in the garage apartment were milled from native trees that were removed to make room for house. Beyond the porte-cochère, at the rear of the garage, is a separate potting shed with sink, heater, and garage door for utility vehicle storage.
The roof of the estate home features oversized "jumbo" cedar shakes over batten system while the siding consists cedar shingles over special underlayment to provide increased ventilation and life span. Sturdy 2 x 6 construction with cross-bracing is used throughout. Notice the oversized copper gutters and Kolbe fully-insulated coated windows and patio doors. The patio features a gas pipe for your outdoor grill. All exterior railings and balcony decking are made of ironwood.
