Our Private Equestrian Communities
Private
equestrian communities are master planned developments designed with the horseman
in mind. The popularity of our private equestrian communities in North Carolina
is remarkable. Horse owners from around the nation have bought property in
our private developments. In the more popular private communities, homes and
farms are in the re-sale stage. The newest equestrian communities are currently
selling lots only, giving you the opportunity to build a home that meets your
discerning taste.
Some of our private equestrian communities include a central barn or equestrian center plus home sites with mountain vistas. Other planned developments feature small farms of 5-acre to 50-acre parcels where equestrians build their own barns and maintain private pastures or paddocks. Some include conservation easements and private trail systems for use by property owners.
Many of our equestrian buyers enjoy their equestrian community properties as second homes or vacation homes where they can ride the trails and enjoy our area’s horse shows and equestrian events on a seasonal basis. Our clients from the northern states travel south in the winter months to enjoy fox hunting while those from Florida and Charleston bring their horses up to the mountains for the cool summer months. Professionals on the show and eventing circuit use their equestrian community farm as a lay up facility during the off-season. However, most horse enthusiasts, once they have experienced the gracious lifestyle of our mountains, make western North Carolina their year-round equestrian home.
Our Horse-Friendly Neighborhoods
Across the
greater Asheville area, several towns and rural neighborhoods offer a horse-friendly
environment. In these traditional communities, outside the city limits, you
can build your home and equestrian facilities without many of the restrictions
involved in private communities. The parcels vary in size and amenities. Some
are surrounded by larger estate homes. Some are populated with equestrian neighbors.
Only a few of these communities offer adjacent equestrian trail systems, but
all of them allow horses.
Throughout our region, public and semi-private horse trails are available. For horsemen living in the Asheville, Hendersonville or Tryon area, its only minutes to the popular Dupont State Forest horse trails. Also, a number of public horse trails are located in Pisgah National Forest, including those at Coleman Boundary located just north of Asheville and at Mills River located just south of Asheville. With the purchase of a Biltmore Estate Equestrian Pass, horsemen can ride the elegant trail system on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville throughout the year.
If you’re interested in buying property in a horse-friendly neighborhood please contact us . Be sure to provide your price range and requirements.
The Buy-and-Board Option
Some of our clients have opted to purchase a home or condominium in the city
and stable their horses at a near-by boarding barn. For these riders, their ‘equestrian
community’ is comprised of like-minded horsemen at the equestrian center
or training facility where their horses are boarded.
The buy-and-board option is an ideal choice for the professional who travels frequently and for the non-equestrian family with a horse-loving teen. It may also be a good option for those who own a horse, but prefer living in a gated golf community or a traditional residential community in town.
If the buy-and-board option seems like a reasonable alternative for your family, please contact us. We can help you find a home to buy within reasonable distance of a horse boarding barn.
Our Equestrian Community Services
Our equestrian specialists can show you all available horse properties in our region and discuss the amenities of each one from a horseman’s perspective. If you’d like to preview the full selection of equestrian communities in the greater Asheville NC area, please contact us. We’ll be pleased to show you equestrian real estate currently on the market.
